Wanted: Teens to Try Real Cases in Youth Court

Students in grades 9-12 can participate.

Teens, who are interested in a career in criminal justice, are being asked to participate in Southampton Town's Teen Youth Court program, which holds trials on real court cases.

"These are not mock trials," said Karen Matz of the Southampton Youth Court. "We hear real court cases of young offenders."

Students, in grades 9 to 12, who choose to participate in the program, act as the attorneys, judges, jury and bailiffs and clerks, said Matz.

However, Matz, said participating students will be required to take a training on Oct. 21 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Southampton Town Justice Court on Jackson Avenue in Hampton Bays. Transportation is available for students living east of the canal.

To sign up and for more information, call Karen Matz at 631.702.2424.
