Village of Quogue Budget Now Under Two Percent Cap

The board is expected to approve the $7.4 million budget at 4 p.m.

The Village of Quogue, at 4 p.m., is expected to approve a $7.4 million budget that now falls under the state's two percent tax cap.

In March, Quogue Mayor Peter Sartorius released a tentative budget that pierced the tax cap by .67 percent. However, according to the village clerk, new tax assessment roll numbers allow exemptions that pushed the budget under the cap limitations.

Specifically, the village is looking at a $60 million decline in overall assessments in the village.

With the exemptions, the village can breach the tax cap without repercussions.

As it stands now, the budget reflects a $173,000 or 2.4 percent increase in spending over the last budget cycle. To fund the budget, the village is looking increase property taxes by 2.67 percent.
