Video: Developers Field Questions on Gabreski Airport Project

Greg and Mitchell Rechler were on hand at the Westhampton Beach Village meeting.

At Thursday night’s Westhampton Beach Village Board meeting, developers Greg and Mitchell Rechler answered questions from village board members and the public regarding their proposal to create a in the Hampton Business District at Gabreski Airport.

The developers, who filed an application in the town of Southampton for their proposal, say their visit to Westhampton Beach is strictly for informative purposes; the village has no jurisdiction over their project.

During the presentation, the Rechlers answered questions regarding a possible bus hub within the proposed center, to plans for sewage treatment, to a request that the Rechlers made to the town allow a three-story hotel on the property.

As previously reported by Westhampton-Hampton Bays Patch, the Rechlers have asked the town to amend the Gabreski Airport’s Planned Development District to allow for taller buildings.

Currently, buildings can be 35 feet or two stories. The Rehlers asked that the to allow for 43-foot tall buildings or three stories.

The Rechlers, who are also the developers of the Canoe Place Inn property in Hampton Bays, are co-signers on a 40-year lease for the 430,000-square-foot business and technology center with Suffolk County.
