Town Will Hear From the Public on Neptunes Sale Today

A public hearing on the possible puchase of the club by the Town of Southampton will be held at 1 p.m.

A public hearing on the possible purchase Neptunes Beach Club for $3.2 million by the Town of Southampton will continue Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Southampton Town Hall.

The hearing is a continuation of an Oct. 8, hearing where several residents stood in support of the purchase, stating that the popular night spot has cost taxpayers more in policing than anything else.

Neptunes, in recent years, has had trouble with drugs with cops responding on a regular basis.

But not all residents support the purchase of the club that has been open since the 1960s — some question whether it is smart for the town to buy property that could "wash away" in a major storm; others have expressed concerns about taking another business off the tax rolls.

The town has stated that it is looking to purchase the 2.8-acre property with Community Preservation Funds and that the owner is a willing seller.
