Southampton To Preserve Land in Hampton Bays and Weesuck Creek, East Quogue

Public hearings on the purchases will be held on July 10.

The Town of Southampton has scheduled public hearings on the purchase of several pieces of property in Westhampton-Hampton Bays using the town's Community Preservation Fund. 

On July 10 a hearing will be held at 1 p.m. at Southampton Town Hall to hear from the public on a proposal to purchase 19.5 acres from from Sunrise, LLC and Hampton Bellows Pond, LLC. The land, according to the town is located on Bellows Pond Road and West Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays.  

Also on July 10 at 1 p.m. at Southampton Town Hall, the town will hold a hearing on a recommendation to purchase 2.4 acres on Montauk Highway in East Quogue from John B. Gallagher. The property, according to the town is designated in the Weesuck Creek Target Preservation area.  

The in December 2011 for $5.4 million and opened dock slips at the site in May despite a community outcry — Some East Quogue residents have, a move they say would protect the aquifer from pollution and noise.

The town responded saying they are operating the facility similar to it's other town-owned facilities and has no plans to expand the marina.
