Parks Department: Report Street Light Outages Online

The new reporting system aims to help provide faster service.

Southampton Town residents can now report street light outages online through a new reporting system.

The new system, designed by the Southampton Town Parks Department, aims to make it easier for residents to report the outage of a street light, said Chris Bean, the head of parks and recreation.

Each year, Bean, who took over the town's street lighting division on Jan. 1, said residents report hundreds of outages.

Prior to the new reporting system, Bean said residents were asked to call in the outages.

"Most people notice outages in the evening when the office is closed. If we get a report at night through the online system, we can get on it immediately the next day in an ideal situation," he said.

When reporting online, residents are asked to answer a number of questions including the location of the pole and it's number, which can be found on a metal plate attached to the pole.

Those without Internet service can still call in street outages by ringing the Parks and Recreation Department’s main office at 631-728-8585.
