Local Schools Set To Receive More School Aid

Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr., I-Sag Harbor, announced the release of school aid figures for the 2013-14 state budget on Tuesday evening.

On Thursday, the Assembly is expected to consider the spending plan which would provide $21.2 billion for schools statewide, an increase of $936.6 million over last year and $436 million over the executive budget, according to Thiele. 

“Making sure our schools have the funding they need to provide our children with a quality education is one of my top priorities,” Thiele said in a statement.  “The 2013 State Budget comes through for 1st Assembly District schools.  Making sure our schools are supported and our children have the best education possible will help them succeed at the jobs of tomorrow. It’s our duty to help provide a strong educational foundation for eastern Long Island students, and the 2013 State Budget does that.”

Here are the figures for local schools

Eastport/South Manor School District:

• In 2012, it received $29,418,919.
• The governor proposed $32,310,084.
• The final budget figure is $32,615,197, or an increase of 10.86 percent.

East Quogue School District:

• In 2012, it received $899,982.         
• The governor proposed $897,543.
• The final budget figure is $1,056,036, or a 17.34 percent increase. 

Hampton Bays School District:

• In 2012, it received $4,108,869.
• The governor proposed $4,169,253.
• The final budget figure is $4,299,603, or an increase of 4.64 percent.

Quogue School District:

• In 2012, it received $246,771.
• The governor proposed $218,911.
• The final budget figure is $280,051, or an increase of 13.49 percent.

Remsenberg/Speonk School District:      

• In 2012, it received $463,500.
• The governor proposed $369,018.
• The final budget figure is $518,289, or an increase of 11.82 percent.

Westhampton Beach School District:    

• In 2012, it received $1,642,036. 
• The governor proposed $1,526,637.
• The final budget figure is $1,786,736, or an increase of 8.81 percent.
