Town Cuts Hours at Hampton Bays Clerk's Office

The satellite clerk's office will only be open two days a week, starting on Monday.

In an effort to meet Southampton's , Sundy Schermeyer, Southampton Town Clerk, said the town is reducing hours at the Town Clerk Annex in Hampton Bays, starting on Monday.

The office, which is currently open three days a week, will now only open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"We are preparing for the new budget cycle, which doesn't go into effect until January," said Schermeyer.

According to Schermeyer, the new budget cuts one full time staff person from her office.

The satellite office, located at 116 Hampton Rd., Schermeyer said not only provides services to western residents, but also serves at the clerk's record management center, which contains 6,500 square-feet of records that are accessed on a daily basis.

Most residents who use the Hampton Bays location, said Schermeyer, are looking to obtain dog licenses, marriage licenses, handicap permits and death certificates. Residents can also drop off materials for other town offices that clerk office employees will bring to town hall for them.

"We try to accommodate residents in anyway we can," said Schermeyer, who noted that just about any form a resident needs is now available online.
