FULL COVERAGE: Presidential Debate a Local Story on Long Island

For two days, Patch editors looked at how the debate, and the frenzy that surrounded it, affected our local communities.

All news is local.

For the past 48 hours, Patch editors put that maxim to the test, tracking just how a national event like a debate between the leader of the free world and the man hoping to be the next one affected locals on Long Island. The stories were not hard to find.

The second presidential debate at Hofstra University turned the Hempstead region on its head, flooding the surrounding areas with security, protesters, politicians, pundits, news networks, and a very excited Hofstra student body, professors and administration.

But the event's impact stretched across Long Island, from Romney's plane landing in Islip to the host of student volunteers from communities far and wide who played a role on campus.

So take a look at our full story list below, and see if there's anything you missed.

Umm RKJ, as a matter of fact Obama DOES tax wheelchairs when Obamacare goes into full effect.

Jack - where do you get your stats about Planned Parenthood and abortion? Only 3% of Planned Parenthood services are actually abortions (and you have NO idea of the health issues facing the person who is getting the abortion). The majority of Planned Parenthood services are contraception and health care. Please get your story straight and stop drinking the Kool Aid. Also, Obama has nothing to do with property taxes - you can thank your local government for that. And by the way, I am not making 15% less under Obama. My salary has actually risen - I am a hard working person who works in the private sector. I do believe the deficit is way too high but I certainly do not trust Romney/Ryan to do anything about that.

exactly concerned, people expected the president to solve the worst crisis since the great depression and as the world's problems in under 4 years and act surprised and pissed when they were proven wrong. regardless of who we voted for in 2008 it was not going to be fixed by now. Whether you think we're worse or better off is up for debate. More importantly, show us a president who increased military spending by $2 trillion, cut taxes AND lowered the national debt, all of which Romney claims.

yes, remember when militant extremists attacked a US embassy it's somehow Obama's fault. Do you blame Bush for 9/11? didn't think so
