County Sprays for Mosquitoes Wednesday

Areas of Westhampton and Flanders slated for treatment.

Suffolk County is going to spray parts of the East End for mosquitoes on Wednesday, including Jagger Lane in Westhampton and Iron Point in Flanders

Though the spraying is weather dependent, the Department of Public Works’ Division of Vector Control said it plans to treat salt marshes from a helicopter to control mosquito larvae between 5 a.m. and 8 p.m.

If the weather conditions are unfavorable Wednesday, Vector Control will treat the marshes on Thursday.

The county helicopter flies in at a low altitude and drops Vectobac 12 AS (Bti) in large droplets, which, according to the county, are registered by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

No precautions are recommended.

To receive notices about future sprayings, call Suffolk County Division of Vector Control at 631-852-4270 or the Spraying Information Hotline at 631-852-4939.
