Immigration Forum Draws Sparse Crowd

The information forum focused on the new immigration policy for undocumented youth.

A forum on Friday night meant to inform locals about a new immigration policy that gives undocumented youths relief from deportation was sparsely attended, with some two dozen attendees and no more than a handful of individuals that the policy could assist.

The thin crowd at the forum, organized by U.S. Rep. Tim Bishop, could have reflected a fear among undocumented residents to come forward.

"We recognize how difficult it is for people to come," Bishop said. The congressman told those in attendance to spread the word. So far, he said, his Patchogue staff has helped approximately 50, route: {:controller=>"articles", :action=>"show", :id=>"scant-number-of-undocumented-immigrants-seeking-bishop-s-help-so-far"} --> who have come for assistance in filing the appropriate paperwork to apply for

Is there a difference between a person who comes here illegally for a better life and someone who conducts a home invasion robbery to steal things so he can have a better life? How about bank robbers and drug dealers? Most drug dealers are breaking the law but are doing so because they want a better life for themselves...same with people who rob banks. Sure there are some bad apples, crack heads, meth addicts and there are some bad apples in the sea of illegal immigrants that wash to shore each day. By and large, however, it would seem that most illegal aliens want the same things that drug dealers, robbers, burgalers and other criminals want ie a better life. Is there a reason Tim Bishop is not holding community gatherings with attorneys and such to help all perpetrators of illegal activity a chance to better themselves with a get out of jail free card? Probably has something to do with the voting demographics.

Oh never mind. I have just been informed that the democrats use the hispanic for 3 different things. They use them for votes and have taken them for granted for decades, they are now using them because if we get them on the payrolls and kicking into social security the prevailing school of thought is that we can use their cash to shore up a portion of the social security shortfall because many of these transients won't file for the benefit and finally, cheap labor. It is a beautiful symbiotic relationship with a foundation in mutual sleaziness. Neeeeevvvvermind.

watch the whole interview - why should he be disqualified for telling the truth, 47% are paying no taxes, many getting adjusted tax refunds (welfare), and the majority of those will vote for Obama out of fear spread by Democrat lies.

As a former resident of eastern Long Island, I’m reading and enjoying Patch.com very much. The suggestion by U.S. Rep. Tim Bishop that attendance was sparse at the immigration forum is because illegal aliens are somehow afraid to come out is nonsense. Illegal immigrants are literally everywhere and show not the least sense of fear. I see them in the schools, at medical clinics, at day labor centers behaving normally and without any concern whatsoever that they might be detained by ICE. Surely Bishop knows this. I also read in Patch that his re-election is uncertain---maybe because of his illegal immigration advocacy? A small but important error in the story. The reporter wrote that DACA is for people “brought to the United States as  young children." In fact, a 29-year old who crossed the border on his own at the age of 15 is just as eligible as the person who was carried over as an infant.
