Bishop: Furlough Days for 106th Rescue Employees Cancelled

220 military employees will head back to work and get paid.

Military technicians from the 106th Rescue Wing at Gabreski, who were facing a furlough through Sept.30, resulting in a 20 percent annual pay cut will be able to go back to work and get paid.

Congressman Tim Bishop, who stood with the employees last week in an effort to support them, said on Thursday afternoon that the 220 employees affected by the furlough will get six days back.

The days were given back, Bishop said on Tuesday when Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel announced that the remaining six furlough days would be cancelled as a result of the reallocation of funding in the Department's budget.

"The cancellation of the remaining furlough days is welcome news to the 106th members who were facing a big hit to their family's budget," Bishop said. "It's also a victory for all of us who recognize the Rescue Wing's value to our community and local economy."

The furlough was part of the Federal sequestration cuts, which Bishop said was not only hurting local military families, but also the country's military readiness.
