Beautification Association's Free Concert Is Aug. 12

Nine more memorial benches available.

The is still looking for volunteers and sponsors for its annual fund-raiser, a free concert at Ponquogue Beach. This year the concert will be held on August 12 and start at 6:30 p.m. (The sign posted by the Hampton Bays Diner says the concert starts at 7 p.m.; it’s an error.)

Headlining the association’s 14th concert is the Fabulous Grease Band. Parking is free after 5 p.m. and those forced to park in the overflow lot will be able to take a shuttle bus the beach’s pavilion.  Bring picnics and beach chairs. Please leave pets and alcohol at home.

For the past few years, there has been a moratorium on memorial benches in Hampton Bays, said HBBA president . The hamlet already had 90 installed benches with plaques and had run out of room for more. Now, however, with the opening of theoff Main Street, 10 more benches are available to personalize with plaques. Von Freddi said one had already been sold. The benches with plaques are $650 for 24 characters. Additional characters cost $1 each.

In regard to the new trail, members of the association discussed adding a cigarette butt receptacle and then considered banning smoking entirely after Vice President Maud Kramer reminded all that Southampton Town prohibits smoking in all its parks.

New By-Laws

The final draft of the revision of the association’s by-laws is now online. The changes are highlighted in yellow. The association will vote on the changes at its October meeting.

Officer Elections

Three seats on the board of directors, the treasurer’s seat and the vice president’s seat will be up for a vote at the September meeting. The slate for the next election includes Jean Waters  for vice president; incumbent John Zuccarelli; and for directors, incumbent Grace Daly, Monica Freeman and Charles Shields.
