A 68-year-old man from Westhampton Beach was charged with endangerment after witnesses spotted him armed with an air rifle near Montauk Highway Friday, police said.
Witnesses called police on Richard Cooper, who they say they saw pointing a Hammerli 850 air magnum rifle in a dangerous direction near the corner of Montauk Highway and Beach Road, a location close to , and .
Arriving on the scene, Police said they found Cooper sitting in a red Audi pointing the gun into a wooded area.
Police did not know whether or not Cooper actually fired the gun; however, they arrested him at 3 p.m. and charged him with second-degree reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor.
