Westhampton Beach F.D. Quells Saturday Morning House Fire

Residential fire caused by sagging floorboards, fire chief says.

Members of the Westhampton Beach Fire Department responded to a fire Saturday morning in which no injuries occurred. All three people in the home, at 19 Library Ave., escaped safely.

According to WHBFD Chief Chip Bancroft, the department responded around 10:30 a.m. to find the fire in the crawl space of the home. Bancroft said the fire started because floor boards in the house were sagging, applying pressure to the hot water system which eventually sparked a flame.
