Walk Honoring Those Lost on 9/11 to Pass through Hampton Bays, Westhampton

Volunteers are needed for the Strength and Hope Walk from Montauk Point to the Ground Zero Memorial, which is set for September 11 to 13 and serves to raise money and awareness.

The Strength and Hope Walk - hosted by Ski’s Open Heart Foundation - kicked off at 8:46 a.m. on September 11, 2012, and it's set to pass through Hampton Bays on September 11 at 8:46 p.m. via County Road 80 at Springville Road and will pass Westhampton at 11:46 p.m. via Montauk Highway at Tanner Neck Lane.

According to organizers in a release about the event, "The walk is being held to remember and honor Detective Lieutenant/MEC USCG Christopher M. Pupo (February 2, 1972 to June 23, 2012) and all those that have lost their lives after 9/11."

In addition, organizers said, 50 percent of the money raised will go to a scholarship fund for Pupo's three daughters, and 50% percent will be donated to Ski’s Open Heart Foundation , which was created by the surviving wife, Debra, and children, Crystal and Sean, of Mark “Ski” Gajewski, to honor his memory by helping the families and victims of 9/11.
