Mother Struck by Car While Pushing Child to Curb
Thirty-four-year-old suffers minor injuries after being hit by a car.
A 34-year-old woman from Westhampton Beach was hit by a car Monday near the corner of Sunset Avenue and Montauk Highway, but she suffered only minor injuries, according to police.
The woman was crossing Montauk Highway with her two-year-old child at around 3:30 p.m. when Caitlin Mitchell, 19, of Westhampton Beach hit her, according to police. The woman pushed her child to the curb before being hit by the car, a Ford Mustang. The child was not injured.
Mitchell, who was making a left turn onto Sunset Avenue, told police that the sun was in her eyes and she did not see the mother and child crossing. Mitchell was arrested for suspended registration, a misdemeanor. Her car was impounded and she was released on an appearance ticket, police said.
