Village Police: Westhampton Beach Man Tried To Get Prescription Drugs

The following information was supplied by the Westhampton Beach Village Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

Westhampton Beach Village Police reports from Oct. 11 through Oct. 18:

Forgery

Police arrested a Westhampton Beach man after he allegedly tried to get drugs from using a forged prescription slip.

A pharmacist from Barth’s on Sunset Avenue told Westhampton Beach Village Police that Saturday, Oct. 8, John Zito, 46, tried to pick up drugs using a prescription slip with a forged doctor’s signature. Police did not know what kind of drugs Zito sought or where he got the slip.

Police secured a warrant for Zito and, after they were called to his Redfield Lane home for an unrelated dispute, arrested him Saturday at 4:10 p.m. Zito was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, a felony.

Zito placed $1,000 bail Sunday and is due back in court on Wednesday.

DWI

Tiffany Meier, 23, of Shirley was arrested by Village Police Saturday at 3:54 a.m. on Oak Street in Westhampton Beach and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, and open container, a violation. Police said Meier was stopped for driving without her headlights on when they discovered she appeared intoxicated and also had a Heineken beer bottle next to the emergency brake.

Unlicensed Operation

Ayhan Ozunal, 51, of Riverhead was stopped by Village Police last Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 5:32 p.m. on the corner of Sunset Avenue and Brook Road in Westhampton Beach and charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor. Ozunal was stopped by police for a traffic violation when police discovered his license had been suspended.

Partier Assaulted

A partier at Casey’s on Montauk Highway in Westhampton Beach told Village Police that he was punched in the head leaving the club early Saturday morning.

The man told officers he drove himself to Peconic Bay Medical Center Saturday morning after he was beat up leaving Casey’s at around 5 a.m. Medical staff at the Riverhead hospital told him he had a minor concussion and mended a large cut on his head with six staples, police said. Officers declined to share the man’s age or hometown, citing an ongoing investigation.

Casey’s hosted an Oktoberfest fest party starting Friday night at 9 p.m. ending the next day at 4 a.m., according to its Facebook page.
