A Long Island Rail Road train collided with a car on the tracks of the Rider Avenue crossing in Patchogue Wednesday morning, causing an hour-long delay on the Montauk line.
The vehicle was struck at approximately 6:45 a.m. by a westbound train that left Speonk at 6:21 a.m., according to Salvatore Arena, a MTA spokesperson.
The driver, Angel Cando, had gotten out of the vehicle before the train struck.
MTA police determined that while passing over the tracks, the vehicle's front right wheel came off. As a result, the car was stuck.
Arena said that the train engineer attempted to stop the train upon seeing the vehicle, but was unable to avoid the collision.
Cando, 27, of Patchogue, was arrested by police on charges of driving without a license.
