Town Police Reports: Leandra's Law Arrest, DWI Crash & More

Also this week, a duo in Flanders was arrested after reportedly fleeing police.

Arrest reports from the Southampton Town Police Department for west of the Shinnecock Cancel between April 21 and April 28:

• Andrew Williams, 50, of Medford, was arrested on April 24 and charged with DWI and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, both misdemeanors.  

According to police reports, Williams told police that while driving on Shinnecock Road, near Norbury Road, around 7:30 p.m., he missed his turn and crashed. Williams reportedly had an odor of alcohol on his breath when interviewed, as well as slurred speech and bloodshot, glassy eyes. He reportedly performed poorly on standard field sobriety tests, refused a breath test, and was found in possession of Oxycodone tablets.   He was also cited for reportedly moving from his lane unsafely.  

• John Tarlen, 41, of Hampton Bays, was arrested on a felony charge of violating Leandra’s Law, as well as a misdemeanor of endangering the welfare of a child, on April 27. According to police reports, Tarlen was in the car with his 12-year-old daughter when he was pulled over on Shinnecock Road and charged. Police reported that eh also refused to take a breath test.

• Laurence Levy, 57, of Mastic, was arrested on April 25 and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. According to police reports, he failed to yield to an oncoming vehicle while driving on Montauk Highway westbound in Hampton Bays around 6:30 p.m.  Police reportedly pulled him over, smelled alcohol on his breath, and Levy allegedly failed standard roadside field sobriety tests.   

• Medina Dervisevic, 34, of Flushing, was arrested on April 27 and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, after police said he failed to maintain his lane of travel while driving on Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays.   

Police reportedly pulled Dervisevic over while he was heading westbound around 1 a.m., smelled alcohol on his breath, and Dervisevic allegedly failed standard roadside field sobriety tests.   

• Jeremy Rosendahl, 33, of East Quogue, was arrested on April 27 and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor.   

Police reports state that Rosendahl was stopped for a traffic violation on South Country Road in Quiogue around 9:40 p.m. Police reportedly found that a bench warrant was out in his name for a failure to appear at Southampton Town Court. Upon investigation, police said Rosendahl was in possession of heroin. He was also charged with aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree, a violation.

• Jose Benitez-Granados, 23, of Flanders, was arrested on April 24 and charged with DWI.  

Police said he was stopped for a traffic violation while driving on Flanders Road around 11:10 p.m. and was reportedly found to be intoxicated. He was transported to headquarters, where police said he submitted to a test and had a blood alcohol level of 0.15 percent, nearly two times the legal limit.  

He was also given citations for reportedly failing to give way to the right of a vehicle, moving from his lane unsafely and driving as an unlicensed driver.  

• Nary Chacon, 26, of Riverside, and Luis Canel, 27, of Riverhead were each arrested on a misdemeanor resisting arrest charge on April 28 around 4:45 p.m.  

According to police, a uniformed officer noticed Chacon and Canel drinking a 12-pack of Budweisers  on Pine Street in Riverside. When approached by police, they reportedly dropped their beer and fled on foot. Police reports state the officer said, “Police, stop,” but they continued to run.  

After a brief pursuit, police reported that Chacon was stopped and arrested, and Canel was later found behind Marta’s Deli. In addition to resisting arrest, they were given a citation for an open container.
