Town Police Log: Man Charged With Leaving The Scene of An Accident

The following information was supplied by the Southampton Town Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

Leaving the Scene of an Accident

Officers arrested a 36-year-old Hampton Bays man after he allegedly fled the scene when his car collided with two others on the corner of Springville, Shore and Suffolk roads Nov. 23.

Police say Joseph Golino, 58, of Brooklyn stopped at a sign at the corner of Suffolk and Springville roads, and started to continue through the intersection until Juan Guncay-Granda, 36, of Hampton Bays collided with him at around 5:15 p.m.

Guncay-Granda was traveling south on Springville Road through the intersection at above 30 miles per hour and did not have a stop sign to obey, according to a police diagram of the accident.

Both Guncay-Granda’s and Golino’s cars collided with that of Scott Budesheim, 52, of Round Hill, Virginia. Budesheim was stopped at the intersection of Shore and Springville roads.

Police say Guncay-Granda ran away from the scene, but returned an hour later. Budesheim and Golino were transported to Southampton Hospital with minor injuries.

Officers charged Guncay-Granda with leaving the scene of an accident with personal injuries, a misdemeanor, and unlicensed operator, a violation.

Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance

Chasrlotte Yenchko, 22, East Norwich was arrested Nov. 21 at 2:39 p.m. at police headquarters in Hampton Bays and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor. Two pocketbooks were found in the Poxabogue golf course parking lot on Montauk Highway in Sagaponack, and while officers looked inside the bags for ID, they discovered oxycodone pills. Yenchko admitted the pills were hers.
