Town Police Log: Caught in Someone Else's Car, With Crack

Southampton Town police arrest reports from east of the Shinnecock Canal for the week of June 4 through June 10:

Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle in the Third Degree

• Andrew Czaplick, 32, of Westhampton, was arrested June 6 at 10:38 p.m. and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in the third degree and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, both misdemeanors. Police said Czaplick was arrested after he was located near the Mill Road and Oneck Lane intersection driving someone else vehicle without permission. According to police, Czaplick was found with crack cocaine.

• Elias Haniotis, 30, of Barto, Penn., was arrested June 9 at 9:44 p.m. on Elder Avenue in Hampton Bays and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. Police said Haniotis was in the driver’s seat of a running vehicle stopped in the roadway. He tried to drive away not realizing the vehicle was in park, according to the arrest report. Police said Haniotis failed sobriety tests and was transported to headquarters for processing. He was additionally charged with refusing a breath screening test.

Criminal Impersonation

• Desmond J. Bright, 31, of Flanders, was arrested June 7 at 9:10 a.m. in Riverside and charged with criminal impersonation in the second degree and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the second degree, both misdemeanors, as well as being an unlicensed driver and littering, both violations. Police said Bright was pulled over for throwing garbage out the window while driving on Route 24 and misidentified himself to an officer.

Petty Larceny

• Benjamin R. Egan, 31, of Worcester, Mass., was arrested June 10 at 10:30 p.m. in Hampton Bays and charged with petty larceny, a misdemeanor, and trespass, a violation. According to the arrest report, a witness reported that Egan entered the driver’s side of a vehicle in his driveway on Shore Road and removed $4 in loose change. Egan was transported to police headquarters to be processed and held for arraignment.
