Town Police Log: DWI, Assault and Cocaine

Police say a Southampton woman, who was stopped in Hampton Bays had PCP and cocaine in her possession.

Drugs

On Feb. 5, Tania Copenhaver, 38, of Southampton was arrested and charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class Felony and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor.  According to police, Copenhaver, was arrested after a police investigation that “included weeks of surveillance where Copenhaver was observed dealing PCP and cocaine.”  Police nabbed her after pulling her over in Hampton Bays for violating vehicle and traffic law. She was in possession of 24 grams of cocaine.

Intoxicated in the Snow

On Feb. 3, Graham Scott, 31, of Rocky Point was arrested by Southampton police after he was found lying in the snow in “an intoxicated condition.”  Police say, they found him near the UA Movie Theatre parking lot in Hampton Bays.   According to police, he was arrested and taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center.  He was charged with failure to appear in court on a prior open alcoholic beverage charge.

 DWI

Frances Ruke, 58, of Hampton Bays was arrested for DWI, a misdemeanor, on Feb. 1. According to police, Ruke was driving on Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays “without the proper headlamps at night.” After stopping Ruke’s Toyota, they found she was intoxicated.  She submitted to a breath test and was held for arraignment.  Police say she was later released on her own recognizance.

 John Erickson, Jr., 31, of Hampton Bays was arrested for DWI, a misdemeanor on Feb. 1. Police say that Erickson was stopped after police found his car idling in traffic on Bellows Terrance Road in Hampton Bays. Investigating further, police say they found Erickson asleep at the wheel. 

Assault

Jamar Reid, 23 of Flanders was arrested on Dune Road in East Quogue on Feb. 4 for assault in the third degree, a misdemeanor.  According to police, Reid was arrested from a charge that stemmed from an investigation of an assault that took place on Sept. 8, 2010 in front of the Hampton Ocean Resort on Dune Road.

Charges are merely accusations. Defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. A name will only be removed if the accused has been acquitted and can provide a certificate of disposition. Contact the editor to make such a request.
