Town Police Log: Police Nab 5 For DWI

The following information was supplied by the Southampton Town Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

reports from Dec. 19 through Dec. 25 for west of the Shinnecock Canal:

DWI

• Carlos Chungata, 46, of Hampton Bays, was pulled over in Hampton Bays Dec. 25 at 4:42 a.m. near the intersection of Montauk Highway West and Alamora Road and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, as well as moving from lane unsafely, a violation. Police said Chungata was swerving in the road and when he was stopped he was found to have an odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, slurred speech and he was unsteady on his feet. He also performed poorly on field sobriety tests, police said.

• George C. Chelius, 40, of Hampton Bays, was arrested Dec. 20 at 4:29 p.m. on Montauk Highway East in Hampton Bays and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, as well as moving from lane unsafely, a violation. Police said they responded to a call of an erratic driver and pulled over Chelius after seeing him swerve.

• Thomas Calhoun, 41, of Riverhead was arrested Dec. 25 at 10:56 p.m. on Flanders Road in Riverside and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, as well as leaving the scene of an accident with property damage and driving without a fastened seatbelt, both traffic violations. Police said Calhoun struck two parked cars in a parking lot and onlookers contacted police. His vehicle was seized due to a previous DWI conviction and he was held overnight for arraignment, police said.

• Antonio Albert Solano, 42, of Hampton Bays, was arrested Dec. 24 at 1:42 a.m. and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, and being an unlicensed driver, a violation. Police said Solano failed to stay in his lane in keep right, and he as pulled over near the intersection of Springville Road and Argonne Road West in Hampton Bays.

• Chris W. Stewart, 64, of Riverhead, was arrested Dec. 23 at 7:05 p.m. on Flanders Road in Riverside and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. Police said Stewart was involved in a car accident and had glassy eyes, alcohol on his breath and was unsteady on his feet. He performed poorly on field sobriety tests and failed a prescreen breath test, police said.

Altered License

• Richard Rodriguez, 44, of Hampton Bays, was arrested Dec. 14 at 1:57 p.m. and charged with falsely using an altered license and aggravated driving with a suspected license in the second degree, both misdemeanors, as well as driving an unregistered motor vehicle, a traffic infraction. Police said Rodriguez was pulled over on Montauk Highway West in Hampton Bays for driving with a vehicle registration and was found to have a revoked ID. He was arrested and the vehicle was impounded.

Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance

• Dominic A. Cruz, 35, of Hampton Bays, was arrested Dec. 23 at 8:04 a.m. and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor. Police said Cruz overdosed earlier in the morning at his residence and was found lying unconscious on the bathroom floor. When he was being taken to the ambulance, he threw a hypodermis needle and eight glassine envelopes in a rubber band containing heroin to the ground in his driveway, according to police. He was released at the hospital on an appearance ticket, police said.
