Three Men in Canoe Rescued; 1 Sent to Hospital

Good Samaritans plucked the men from the water.

A canoe that overturned in Tiana Bay on Thursday morning sent one to the hospital, according to Southampton Police.

Police said they received a call at 8:30 a.m. that a canoe flipped about 100 yards off the shoreline โ€” the canoe's occupants were in the water.

Police arrived to find that the men in the canoe had been plucked from the water by three good Samaritans, who saw the canoe flip from the Hampton Arms Resort on Tiana Road.

Police said the good Samaritans got in their boat and rescued the men, who were not wearing life jackets.

According to police the canoe flipped when one of the men decided to jump in the water for a swim, toppling over the canoe as as he jumped.

Also responding the the scene was the Hampton Bays Ambulance and the Hampton Bays Fire Department Dive Team.
