Southampton Town Police Earn Re-accreditation

The Southampton Town Police Department was awarded a Certificate of Accreditation from the state last week.

The New York State Division of Criminal Justice gives the certificates to formally recognize that a police department's "policies and practices meet or exceed the established standards in areas of administration, training, and police operations," according to a statement from the department .

Chief Robert Pearce and Lt. Lawrence Schurek, the accreditation program manager, accepted the award from the Law Enforcement Accreditation Council, during a ceremony at the Alfred E. Smith State Office Building in Albany on Sept. 12.

The council established standards to promote excellence and professionalism in law enforcement.

The department has been accredited since September 1998.
