Southampton Town Declares State of Emergency for Blizzard

Residents told to keep off roads except for emergencies.

Southampton Town is under a state of emergency, and residents are ordered to only travel in case of emergency, and to refrain from parking along roadways to facilitate snow plowing.

A number of accidents have already been reported on the roads.

The order permits the town Highway Department to plow private roads.

The town notes that the weather forecast calls for between 16 and 18 inches of snow, with wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour, causing hazardous driving conditions and power outages.  National Grid across Long island, but states that power should be restored within 24 hours. Power outages can be reported to LIPA at 1-800-490-0075.

Town Hall and all town facilities closed early Friday due to the forecast, at 3 p.m.

Have to say Southampton did the best on LI in terms of roadways. It took me 7 hours to get to EQ from Queens and LIE, 454 and Sunrise were SO scarey but once I got pat Manorville everything was a lot better. Even my little street was already plowed.

The town did not ever clear our street. According to the site, private roads do get attended to, but that is not the case.
