Southampton Police Log: Driving, Boating Drunk Arrests

Eastchester man charged after random boating safety check.

Arrests west of the Shinnecock Canal from July 22 to 29:

Driving While Intoxicated

• Estuardo Velasquez, 36, of Flanders, was arrested July 28 at 2:50 a.m. near the intersection of Bell Avenue and Flanders Road in Flanders and charged with aggravated DWI and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree, a misdemeanor. Police said Velasquez was spotted making an unsafe turn onto Flanders Road northbound and failing to stay in his lane, crossing the white shoulder lines and double yellow lines in the center of the road. He failed sobriety tests and a prescreen breath test, according to the arrest report. Police said Velasquez was also cited for being an unlicensed driver, moving from lane unsafely, making an improper right turn and failing to keep right.

• Travis C. Meekins, 24, of Wading River, was arrested July 27 at 12:48 a.m. on Penny Lane in Hampton Bays and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. Police said Meekins was driving eastbound on Shinnecock Road when he ran a stop sign. According to the arrest report, Meekins admitted to having three shots and a beer a half hour prior. Meekins was additionally cited for failing to stop at a stop sign, driving at an unreasonable speed, and failure to signal, both traffic infractions, the reported stated.

• Luis Espinoza, who is also known by Luis Vasquez, a 33-year-old resident of Hampton Bays, was arrested July 27 at 4:05 a.m. on Shinnecock Road in Hampton Bays and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, as well as equipment violations. According to the arrest report, Espinoza was stopped for a broken headlight and was found to be intoxicated.

• Luis Erazo, 42, of Hampton Bays, was arrested July 28 at 2:26 a.m. near the intersection of Maryland Boulevard and Cornell Place in Hampton Bays and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. Police said Erazo was driving southbound on Ponquogue Avenue in a 1999 Isuzu when he was stopped for failing to maintain his lane of travel. According to the arrest report, that is when police determined he was drunk behind the wheel. He was additionally cited for moving from lane unsafely and being an unlicensed operator, the report stated.

Boating While Intoxicated

• William J. Cirillo, 20, of Eastchester, was arrested  July 27 at 6:15 p.m. in the Muschett Beach County Park boat basin and charged with operating a vessel while intoxicated, a misdemeanor. According to the arrest report, Cirillo was operating a 2008 Stingray boat in the Shinnecock Inlet and was directed into a boating while intoxicated and boating safety checkpoint, which was checking every fifth vessel. The report stated that he appearing unsteady on his feet when retrieving boating safety equipment and his eyes appeared bloodshot and glassy and he had the smell of alcohol on his breath.

Petty Larceny

• A 34-year-old Wyandanch man was arrested July 23 at 3:25 p.m. in Quiogue  and charged with petty larceny, a misdemeanor. Police said the man entered the J&V Auto Salvage junkyard on South Country Road and took three items from a vehicle and left without paying, carrying the items in a shopping bag. After being transported to police headquarters, he was released on $100 stationhouse bail, according to the arrest report.
