Southampton Incident Reports: Taxi Passenger Didn't Pay Up

Town police reports logged between Dec. 26 and Jan. 1.

A weekly round-up of reported crimes and suspicious incidents from the :

Non-Payment

• A New York Taxi driver reported to Southampton police that his passenger failed to pay him on New Year’s Eve.

Muhammad Bhuiyan said he drove a passenger from Manhattan to North Magee Street in Tuckahoe and the passenger left the taxi without paying. Bhuiyan said the passenger promised to pay $300. 

Police say they checked the area for the passenger but there are no leads nor suspects at this time.

Harassment

• Police were called on Dec. 28 to an East Quogue residence where a woman reported that that she got a threatening call on her cell phone from a man who rented a room from her. The woman said she had to throw the man out on Christmas for becoming angry and he is now threatening to “kill her.”

Fraud

• A Hampton Bays resident told police last week that someone stole checks from her checkbook and may have made a request to her cellphone company for a change of address. She claims she has never made a request to the cell carrier.

• A Hampton Bays resident has reported that someone made charges to her JCPenny credit card in the amount of $1,000 and that her credit card billing address had been changed to a New Jersey address.

• A Hampton Bays resident reported that on Dec. 19 she received a call from Chase MasterCard that someone was trying to open an account in her name.

Goods Stolen

• A Quiogue resident reported that a tennis bracelet was taken from her bedroom sometime over the summer. The resident believes it may have been taken by caregivers who were in the home alone.

• A Bridgehampton resident reported that on Dec. 30 someone stole $240 in cash, a red coach wallet and handbag, house keys and credit cards from her car. The car was parked near the end of Ocean Road. Her two dogs were in the car at the time of the theft.

Burglary

• A Hampton Bay resident reported to police last week that someone entered his home on Douglas Court between Dec. 20 and Dec. 22 and stole two flat screen televisions, a black leather sectional couch, a glass coffee table, a photo of New York City without the frame, and a liquor dispenser. The resident said he believes it was the work of a contractor. The town police's detective division is investigating.

• A Sagaponack resident has reported to police that someone broke into his garage and stole a red and gold mountain bike and tools. The case is being investigated by the detective division.

• A North Sea resident reported that someone, on Dec. 23, opened his holiday mail, which contained $100 in cash. The letters were found on the sidewalk near his mailbox. Police report that there are no leads at this time.

• Sometime between Dec. 11 and Dec. 24 a rowboat went missing from a home in Bridgehampton, according to a report filed to Southampton police. The owner  says the boat was secured to the dock. It is 10-feet long and has a blue interior. It was in poor condition and not registered.

Criminal Mischief

• A Hampton Bays resident reported that someone scratched an obscenity into his car, which was parked in front of his home. Police are investigating.
