Southampton Incident Reports: Three Burglaries Reported

Crimes and suspicious incidents from Feb. 6 to Feb. 13. reported to Southampton Town police.

Grand Larceny

• A Water Mill business owner reported on Feb. 7 that someone took two aluminum signs, valued at $1,200, from a construction site. Police are investigating.

• A Hampton Bays man reported that his work van was damaged on Feb. 7 while parked in Westhampton. The man told police that "deep cuts" where made to the van's passenger side door.

• A Hampton Bays resident reported to police on Feb. 8 that someone slashed the driver's side rear tire of her car that was parked in a driveway in Hampton Bays. Police say that at this time they have no leads.

Petty Larceny

• A Westhampton business owner reported on Feb. 4 that someone stole various tools from his work van, which was parked in Westhampton Beach.

• A Southampton man told police on Feb. 7 that he believes someone took his money from an ATM after it dispensed $400. The man said he did step away from the machine for a moment and he noticed another man walk over to the machine. 

Burglary

• An East Quogue resident reported that on Feb. 12 someone entered his home without permission through a rear door by kicking it in. Police are investigating.

• A Sag Harbor resident reported to police on Feb. 12 that someone entered her home and stole a MacBook Pro computer, an external hard drive, a Toshiba Laptop computer, a Dell Laptop computer, gold rings and a Canon Powershot digital camera.  The resident believes the person or persons responsible entered through a rear door.

• A Sagaponack woman reported to police on Feb. 9 that someone entered her home and took three televisions and an apple computer.

Leaving the Scene

• A Mattituck resident reported to police on Feb. 8 that he was involved in a car accident in Hampton Bays; however, the car that hit him left the scene. The resident said he was driving northbound on State Route 24 when a Ford pick-up swerved into his lane and slammed his car in the rear.

Identity Theft

• A Hampton Bays man reported on Feb. 7 that someone used his Social Security number to file a tax return and collect a tax refund in the amount of $1,436.50. Police are investigating.

• A Southampton woman reported on Feb. 16 that someone used her Macy's card, which she never received in the mail after applying for it, to purchase $9,995 with of goods at a Macy's store in Brooklyn. Police are investigating.
