Southampton Incident Reports: Crashed Car Found With No Driver

Reported crimes and suspicious incidents from the Southampton Town police.

Leaving The Scene

• Police report that on Thursday, a tan 2002 Honda Elantra was left at the corner of Yale Drive and North Westbury Road in Hampton Bays after it was apparently involved in an accident. Police say they attempted to locate the owner of the car, but the owner, who police believe is from Mastic Beach, did not have a listed address or phone number. The vehicle was impounded and police are investigating.

• On Jan. 17 a Hampton Bays resident called police to report that someone damaged her car, which was parked on Montauk Highway. She said the car that hit her vehicle took off after damaging her car's passenger door.

• On Saturday, police took a report of a car leaving the scene of an accident in Water Mill where it reportedly struck another car. The victum says the car was a gray Land Cruiser. Police say the have no leads at this time.

Criminal Mischief

• A Hampton Bays business owner called police on Wednesday to report that someone damaged his business sign by shooting holes through it with a  BB gun.  Police are investigating.

Criminal Trespass

• A Speonk homeowner reported that sometime between Jan. 12 and Jan. 15, someone entered his home, opening draws and the medicine cabinet. Nothing was taken.

Identity Theft

• On Jan. 17 a Quiogue resident reported that someone used her credit card to charge $1,824 worth of snowboarding equipment.  The charges were reportedly made through a website. Police are investigating.

Grand Larceny

• A Water Mill resident reported to police on Jan. 16 that someone stole items from her pocketbook, which was inside her car that was parked in her garage.  The woman said she left her purse in the car for about 30 minutes while she ran inside. Taken was various credit cards, passports and $300 in cash.

Burglary

The handyman of an East Quogue home reported that sometime between Jan. 13 and Jan. 17, someone broke into the home, ransacking it and taking various items. The police are working with the homeowner to find out exactly what was taken.

Reckless Endangerment, Petty Larceny

A Noyac resident reported that her car was missing it's drive shaft after it had work done at an East Hampton auto repair shop. The owner of the car says she is not sure how the drive shaft went missing. Police are investigating.
