Amazing we need to be reminded of the obvious, but it happens every year. The old joke 4 wheel vehicles get stuck, too, only deeper into the woods is no longer funny with the number of SUV's on the road. You have 4 wheel drive that gets you going, but we ALL have 4 brakes that help us stop... that's where the trouble begins. Brakes don't stop you, tires do, but not on ice and a higher center of gravity aided by more weight above the axle make these Weebles wobble and flip. See photo.

So true, Walter. A small car with front wheel drive handles much better in snow and on ice.

people are relying on people are relying on"all-season" tires- i have a m-b roadster with rear- wheel drive; but i have snow tires on all 4 wheels and i was amazed how well it handles in snow also a little common sense goes a long ways
