Sharks Spotted off West Hampton Dunes

Police say more than six sharks were feeding within reach of the shoreline.

Six sharks were spotted feeding in the waters of West Hampton Dunes on Tuesday, only 10 feet from the shoreline, according to police.

The sharks were feeding on bait fish near , located on Dune Road in Westhampton, according to West Hampton Dunes police Sergeant Tim Turner.

Turner said police could not tell what kind of sharks they were.

West Hampton Dunes Police were called to the scene along with the Suffolk County Police Department, which was canvasing the area by helicopter.

Authorities are advising people to stay out of the water.
