Sharks Spotted off West Hampton Dunes

Police say more than six sharks were feeding within reach of the shoreline.

Six sharks were spotted feeding in the waters of West Hampton Dunes on Tuesday, only 10 feet from the shoreline, according to police.

The sharks were feeding on bait fish near , located on Dune Road in Westhampton, according to West Hampton Dunes police Sergeant Tim Turner.

Turner said police could not tell what kind of sharks they were.

West Hampton Dunes Police were called to the scene along with the Suffolk County Police Department, which was canvasing the area by helicopter.

Authorities are advising people to stay out of the water.

They were basking sharks, they show up every year and every year people freak out.

I agree that they were very likely harmless Basking Sharks (harmless as long as you're not plankton). They didn't appear to have the gorgeous tails of tasty Threshers; and their size points towards Basking Sharks. Good Fun for for goers !

Ok, several articles said they were threshers, i was just going by what read, I was not there....
