Sea Tow, Coast Guard Respond to Shinnecock Bay Boat Fire Call

None injured in the incident, which occurred a short ride from Coast Guard headquarters.

officials responded Monday morning to a call for a boat in distress after a 37-foot Sundancer started smoking in its engine room.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

According to Chief David Dolphin with the United States Coast Guard, a call reporting a boat on fire just north of Cormorant Point, in Shinnecock Bay, came in at 8:50 a.m.

Dolphin said the man operating the boat reported soon after that while the boat was taking on some water, no fire was taking place and the boat was not in distress.

responded to the scene within 10 minutes, Dolphin said, and a Coast Guard boat followed alongside as the boat was brought back to shore.

Southampton Bay Constable and Hampton Bays Fire Department were also called for aid, though were not needed for rescue.
