Safety Officials Eyeing Cause of Shirley Plane Crash
Investigators held a press conference Monday morning after a plane landed in a residential neighborhood in Shirley on Sunday morning, killing two.
Officials with the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating on site in Shirley Monday, according to Newsday, after a single-engine plane crashed and burned in a residential neighborhood late Sunday morning, killing two people.
The plane's pilot, whose identity has not yet been released, was killed along with 60-year-old Goshen, N.Y. resident Jane Unhjem. It was taking off from nearby Calabro Airport when it crashed on Helene Avenue.
According to Newsday, NTSB investigator Brian Rayner said at a Monday morning press conference, "In general, we look at the man, the machine and the environment ... We’re out here with a big net, picking up as much data as we can.”
