Assault, Prostitution, and DWI

Assault, 3rd Degree

On Nov. 8, at approximately 9:00 a.m., Southampton Police arrested Jamie M. Schofield, age 35, of Hampton Bays at Southampton Town Police Headquarters. Schofield turned herself in after discovering she was the suspect of an assault investigation, which had occurred at the Beach Bar on Oct. 31. Schofield was charged with Assault 3rd Degree, a misdemeanor and released on an appearance ticket.

Failure to Pay a Fine

On Nov. 13, at approximately 7:00 p.m., Southampton Police arrested David W. Bennett, 41, of Hampton Bays in Southampton Village. Bennett had been stopped by village police for a traffic infraction and found to have an active Southampton Town bench warrant for failure to pay a fine from previous traffic violations. He was turned over to the Southampton Town Police where he was processed and held for arraignment.

Petit Larceny

On Nov. 7, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Southampton Town Police arrested Amanda Blaney, 18, of Westhampton, for Petit Larceny. Blaney turned herself in to Southampton Town Police headquarters for an active Bench Warrant that was issued by Southampton Town Justice court on August 24 for Petit Larceny. Blaney was processed and released on an appearance ticket.

Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree

On Nov. 13, at approximately 3:00 a.m., at 200 Howell Avenue in Riverhead, Southampton Town Police arrested Jason M. Martin, 29, of Mastic on a Bench Warrant out of Southampton Town Court for failure to appear for a court appearance in July.  Martin was originally charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree. He was brought to police headquarters for processing and held for morning arraignment.

Driving While Intoxicated

On Nov. 10, at approximately 10:00 p.m., on Elm Avenue/Royal Avenue in Flanders, Southampton Town Police arrested Guillermo Vargas, 48, of Flanders for DWI, a Misdemeanor. Vargas crashed his car into a telephone pole at the arrest location. He was not injured in the accident. The investigation revealed that Vargas was driving his car while drunk. He was arrested at the scene, transported to headquarters for processing, and held for morning arraignment.

Prostitution

On Nov. 13, Southampton Police arrested several suspects for prostitution.  For several weeks, investigators conducted surveillance of #43 Vail Avenue in Riverside, where a brothel was being operated by Manuel Lopez-Garcia and Francisco Isreal Gonzalez-Chavarria.  Police shut down the house.  The two men were collecting money, usually $30, from "Johns" and then leading them to a waiting room where they could watch television and eat free candy while they waited for one of the two women to become available.  Between 30 and 90 men rotated through the residence each day.  Police estimate that the operation made about $2,700 a day.   

Investigators from The Southampton Town Police Street Crime Unit and The Suffolk County Sheriff's Office arrested the following six individuals:

Manuel Lopez-Garcia, 23 of Moriches and Guatemala City, Guatemala – Promoting Prostitution 3rd Degree, a class "D" Felony.

Francisco Isreal Gonzalez-Chavarria, 36 of Hampton Bays and Mexico DF, Mexico – Promoting Prostitution 3rd Degree, a class "D" Felony.

Fabiola Garduno-Estada, 23 of Union City, NJ and Toluca, Mexico – Prostitution, a class "B" Misdemeanor.

Berenice Rojas, 22 of Queens and Chilpansigo Gurrero, Mexico – Prostitution, a class "B" Misdemeanor.

Luis Gabriel Mateus, 33 of Riverhead and Guatebrala, Guatemala – Patronizing a Prostitute, a class "A" Misdemeanor.

Emigdio Rayes aka Gonzales, 24 of Hampton Bays and Atlixco, Puebla, Mexico – Patronizing a Prostitute, a class "A" Misdemeanor.
