DWI, Speeding, Endangering the Welfare of a Child

Driving While Intoxicated

On Nov. 21, at 7:36 p.m., Southampton Town Police arrested Joshua Shirley, 22, of Hampton Bays.  Police saw Shirley driving erratically in the parking lot of the Hampton Bays 7-Eleven.  Shirley left the parking lot and proceeded eastbound on Good Ground Road where he was stopped by police. The investigation revealed that Shirley was intoxicated. He was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, a misdemeanor, Unsafe Backing, a violation and Failure to Maintain a Lane, a violation. All are charges are from the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law. Shirley was transported to Southampton Town Police headquarters for processing and was held for morning arraignment.

On Nov. 18, at 2:40 a.m., Southampton Police arrested Michelle E. Viola, 31, of Selden on Sunrise Highway westbound at exit 65 in Hampton Bays. Police had received a 911 call from a passing motorist at 12:16 a.m. reporting an erratic driver operating a blue Jeep, eastbound on County Road 39 in Southampton. Officers responded but were unable to locate the car as it had apparently already left the area.  At 1:40 a.m., police received a second report of a blue Jeep driving erratically, this time westbound on County Road 39.  Officers again responded and were able to locate the car heading westbound on Sunrise Highway.

Police finally caught up with Viola in Hampton Bays and found her to be under the influence of drugs after admittedly taking cocaine and a prescription similar to Valium. Viola's 4-year-old daughter was also in the vehicle.  She was found to be in possession of two prescriptions, Soboxone and Flurazepam, which were not in their original containers and for which she could not provide a prescription. Viola was transported to police headquarters for processing and is being held for morning arraignment. Her daughter was also brought to police headquarters and later turned over to a relative. Viola is charged with the Leandra's Law, Aggravated DWI, a felony, Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, all misdemeanors, and the Public Health Law violation for possession of prescription medication outside of its original container. Child Protective Services was notified of the arrest.

Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, 3rd Degree

On Nov. 3, at about 10:00 a.m., on Montauk Highway in East in Hampton Bays, Southampton Town Police arrested Brad M. Piecuch, 29, of Southold for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree, a Misdemeanor. Piecuch was stopped for not wearing his seatbelt and a DMV check revealed his license was suspended. He was arrested at scene and released on an appearance ticket.

Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended Registration

On Nov. 3, at 8:29 a.m., on Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays, Southampton Police arrested Joseph P. Furlong, 32, of Hampton Bays for Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended Registration, a Misdemeanor. Furlong was stopped when a license plate reader indicated his registration was suspended. A subsequent DMV check revealed his registration was suspended for an insurance lapse. He was arrested at the scene and released on an appearance ticket.

On Nov. 10, at about 8:00 p.m., on Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays, Southampton Police arrested Catalino Ramos, 35, of Southampton for Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended Registration, a Misdemeanor. Ramos was stopped for speeding and a DMV check revealed his registration was suspended for an insurance lapse. He was arrested at the scene and released on an appearance ticket.
