Police Log: Police Chase Motorcyclist

Southampton police reports from April 25 to May 2.

Criminal Possession of Stolen Property

On April 27, Southampton Police say they arrested Jessie White, Jr., 47, of Westhampton Beach in Speonk for criminal possession of stolen property, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, driving with a suspended registration, disobeying a stop sign, failure to keep right and unlicensed operator.  Police say he was nabbed after he was stopped for a traffic infraction on County Road 39.  It was learned that the license plates on his car were stolen.

Also nabbed for criminal possession of stolen property was Justin Kline, 21, of Hampton Bays. Police say a witness confronted Kline while he was fueling a stolen ATV at the Shell Gas Station at Canoe Place Road.  He fled, but was found in the back of a cab about 20 minutes later. Police stopped the cab and charged Kline with criminal possession of stolen property in the 5th degree and petit larceny.

On April 29, police arrested Lawrence Smith, 44, of Coram on Bayberry Lane in East Quogue for DWI. Police say Smith was spotted swerving.  After pulling him over, the officer noticed a strong smell of alcohol in his breath.  He was also unsteady on his feet and had glassy eyes.  In addition, Smith was charged with criminal contempt for violating an order of protection and for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Police say the criminal contempt charge was for being in the car with a woman, who had an order of protection against him.

Also arrested for DWI, was Juan Guzman, 33, of Hampton Bays. Police say Guzman was arrested on May 2 for DWI and for having an open container. Police say Guzman struck a parked car on the south shoulder of Montauk Highway and spun 180 degrees, stopping in front of Tony’s Asian Fusion.  Police say he was highly intoxicated and refused a chemical test. He was also charged with unlicensed operation of a vehicle.

On April 30, police arrested John Nelson, 49, of Sag Harbor for DWI and resisting arrest. Police say Nelson was stopped at Shinnecock Avenue in East Quogue for having non-transparent side windows.  Police found that he was intoxicated. Police say he also refused arrest and had to be subdued.

Edgar Fajardo-Saldana, 27, of Hampton Bays was arrested on Montauk Highway East at the Bittersweet South Extension for DWI and moving from a lane unsafely. Police say Edgar Fajardo was stopped after he was spotted swerving.  Police say he had alcohol on his breath.

Drugs

On April 26, Southampton Police say they arrested David Harper, 37, of Westhampton Beach for possession of marijuana, a violation.  Police say Harper was speeding on Old Country Road in Speonk and they pulled him over. He was found to have pot. He was also charged with speeding.

Also arrested for unlawful possession of marijuana was Kassandra James-Blond, 20, of Hampton Bays and William Mackey, 22, of Southampton. Police say James-Blond and Mackey were in a parked car at the end of Tiana Circle on April 21. When police approached the car, they noticed a strong smell of pot.  Both Mackey and James-Blond were issued an appearance ticket.

David Harper, 37, of Westhampton Beach, was also charged with criminal possession of marijuana last week. On April 26, Harper was pulled over for speeding on Old Country Road in Speonk. Police found that he had an ounce of weed in his back pocket.

On April 24, police charged Pablo Saravia, of Hampton Bays, with unlawful possession of marijuana and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree. Police say Saravia, who was involved in a motor vehicle accident on Flanders Road, was found to have a clear plastic bag with pot in his console. Police also learned that he was driving without a license.

On April 27, Guilio Riccobono, 39, of East Patchogue was arrested for unlawful possession of marijuana and given an 7-Eleven in Hampton Bays.  Upon searching Riccobono, police found a bag of pot.

On April 26, Gregory Yalango, 24, of East Quogue was arrested for criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree and unlawful possession of marijuana. Police say they found Yalango slumped over in his car on Oak Street in East Quogue with his leg hanging out of the car.  Police say, while searching Yalango’s car, they found a lighter, spoon, cigarette box and a small bag with pot in it. They also found four syringes and bags containing a white substance.

Motorcycle Pursuit

On April 27, police say they arrested Joseph Carter, 33, of Hampton Bays after they chased him down Wakeman, Wauhope, Lynne Argonne and Canoe Place roads. They nabbed him on Montauk Highway after he fell from his motorcycle after failing to negotiate a left turn.  According to police, the chase began after they spotted Carter, who was driving a red motorcycle without taillights.  Carter was charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer in the third degree, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motorcycle in the third degree, reckless driving, failing to maintain a lane, driving in the wrong direction, four counts of failure to signal a left turn, two counts of failure to signal a right turn, four counts of failure to stop at a stop sign, unregistered vehicle, no tail lights, uninspected motor vehicle, uninsured motor vehicle.

Hit and Run

On April 27, the owner of a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu reported that her car was hit while parked on Bittersweet South Extension in Hampton Bays. Police are seeking more information.

Burglary in Westhampton Beach

Police say two homes on South Country Road in Westhampton were burglarized.  The owner of the first home reported that over $5,000 worth of goods including a loaded gun and a pearl necklace was taken.  Police discovered the second home was burglarized while investigating the burglary of the first home.  Police were unable to contact the homeowner and are unsure what was removed from the house.

Burglary

An East Quogue resident reported to police on April 23 that well over $10,000 in goods was taken from his home, including an engagement ring.  Police say the resident believes that employees of his former cleaning service may have broken into his home.

On April 30, the owner of the Getty Station on Good Ground Road in Hampton Bays called police to report a burglary. According to James Francolini, a burglar gained access to the station by breaking in through the business's garage door. Stolen was over $1,500 worth of goods, including a car radio, a scanner and a saw.

Identity Theft

A Hampton Bays resident reported to police on April 26 that someone had stolen his Social Security number to file a tax return in the amount of $241.  The IRS was notified and an investigation is underway.

Grand Larceny

According to police on April 19 a Remsenburg woman reported that her 1999 Ford was stolen from Montauk Highway in Speonk.  She told police she left her keys in the car and an unknown male got in the car and took off. The car was recovered .5 miles away. The car was impounded for investigation.

Assault

On May 2, Richard Gallo, 23, of East Quogue, was arrested for assault in the second degree. According to police, Gallo was involved in a domestic incident with his father in East Quogue.  Police say Gallo struck his father several times, causing a facture to his eye, internal bleeding and lacerations to his face.
