Police: Hampton Bays Woman Says She Escaped Abduction

Southampton Town Police are searching for a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt.

Southampton Police are searching for a man who they say attempted to abduct a Hampton Bays woman on Friday night around 9:48 p.m.

According to police, the woman was grabbed from behind by an unknown man as she arrived at her home on East Bay Avenue. She reported to police that she tried to call out for help, but the man grabbed her mouth and threatened her in Spanish.

The woman says she managed to escape, fighting him off while he attempted to force her in his car. She says the man ran away after she broke free.

Police say they combed the area with the assistance of The New York State K-9 Unit, but have been unable to locate the male and are looking for the public's assistance.

The man is described as being 5 foot 5 inches and was wearing a hooded sweatshirt. Anyone with information is asked to call, 631-702-2230.

It is unclear if this incident is related to another attempted abduction that was reported in early February in Noyac.  According to police, a man reportedly tried to force a jogger into his car parking lot under the pretense of asking her for directions. The suspect is described as a middle-aged white male Hispanic wearing a black fleece zippered jacket and a plain blue baseball cap.
