Police: Hampton Bays Woman Killed in West Babylon Crash

Miriam Ortiz was rear ended by a box truck Wednesday.

A 60-year-old Hampton Bays woman died in , according to police.

Suffolk County police said Miriam Ortiz was driving a 1990 Geo in the center lane of westbound Sunrise Highway west of Little East Neck Road Wednesday at 3 p.m. when she slowed down. “A 2009 International Box Truck rear-ended the Geo and pushed the car into a guardrail,” police said. Ortiz was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Suffolk County medical examiner’s office.

“The driver of the truck, Ramis Kirlangic, 49, of Fairview, New Jersey, was not injured,” police said. The truck is owned by Sarcona Management of South Carney, New Jersey, which delivers paper to print shops.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact the First Squad at 631-854-8152 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential, according to police.
