The center was secured after 50 minutes.

Volunteer firefighters from the Westhampton Beach Fire Department were called to the Westhampton Beach Learning Center on Old Riverhead Road Thursday with reports of a fire.

First on the scene, Chip Bancroft, chief, was greeted by considerable smoke coming from the west side of building #3; however, after canvassing the building with a thermal imaging camera, firefighters were unable to detect a fire.

It was later learned that the smoke was billowing from the building's heating and air conditioning system.
