North Carolina Man Accused Of Driving Drunk In Hampton Bays

The following arrests were reported by the Town of Southampton Police and New York State Police for the week of Dec. 16. A criminal charge is an accusation. Defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Hampton Bays

• New York State Police arrested Brett A. Lockamy, 38, of Shallotte, N.C, on a drunken driving charge on Dec. 13. According to troopers, Lockamy was driving on Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays when he was stopped by police for moving from his lane unsafely. When questioned Lockamy was found to be intoxicated. He was arrested and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, and is due back in Southampton Town Court on Dec. 23.

Riverhead

• New York State Police arrested a 21-year-old Riverhead man on an assault charge on Dec. 15. According to police the man was arrested after an altercation that took place on Kirk Avenue the same day. He was processed and charged with third-degree assault, a misdemeanor. He is due back in Riverhead Town Court on Dec. 23.

• New York State Police arrested Cornelio Mendoza, 44, of Calverton, on a drunken driving charge on Dec. 12. According to state troopers, Mendoza was initially stopped for moving lanes unsafely while driving on County Road 58 in Riverhead. When questioned police discovered that Mendoza was intoxicated. He was arrested and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. He is due back in court on Jan. 8.

Riverside

A 48-year old man was picked up on a warrant for his arrest for allegedly stealing batteries from parked vehicles at a scrap yard and then selling the stolen batteries to the same scrap yard.

On Dec. 13, Southampton Town police noticed the man walking on Pine Street at around 9 p.m. and arrested him for the Oct. 23 incidents. According to police, on Oct. 24 they received a call from the owner of Riverside Recycling on Old Quogue Road who claimed he had just watched surveillance footage of two people stealing batteries from under the hoods of parked cars in the lot of his business. One victim filed a separate report stating that he had gone out to his 2002 Saturn at around 2 p.m. and noticed that the hood of the vehicle was slightly opened and the battery was gone.

Police said after stealing the batteries, totalling around $360 in value, the 48-year-old then sold the batteries to Riverside Recycling for $25. The second suspect was never identified or located.  

The man, whose known alias is “Creepy,” is charged with petty larceny and fourth-degree criminal mischief, both misdemeanors. He was process and released on an appearance ticket.

Flanders

• New York State Police arrested Lawrence McMahon, 27, of Sag Harbor, on Dec. 9 after they said he drove while high on drugs and alcohol. According to state troopers, McMahon was stopped for speeding on County Road 104 in Flanders and was found to be under the influence. Additionally, police said they found heroin and morphine in his possession. He was arrested and charged with DWAI by drugs and alcohol, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminally possessing a hypodermic instrument, all misdemeanors. He is due back in Southampton Town Court on Jan. 6.

• A pair of 22-year-old Riverhead men were arrested by New York State Police on Dec. 12 after a routine traffic stop uncovered that they were in possession of drugs. According to police, the two men were driving on Flanders Road in Flanders when they were pulled over for unspecified traffic violations. That’s when police said they discovered the men to be in possession of methamphetamine. The men were arrested and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.  They’re due back in court on Jan. 13.
