Update: Report Indicates Driver Was Asleep at the Wheel in East Quogue Crash

A driver was airlifted on Wednesday in East Quogue.

Updated: Four people were sent to the hospital after a head-on collision in East Quogue on Wednesday afternoon at around 4:30 p.m. said that preliminary reports indicate that one of the drivers fell asleep at the wheel.

According to police, the Montauk Highway crash was caused after the driver of a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, heading eastbound, veered into westbound traffic colliding with a 2012 Toyota, carrying three people.

Police believe the driver of the Cherokee had fallen asleep.

All four people involved in the crash were taken to the hospital by the East Quogue Ambulance Company; the driver of the Toyota was transported via Medevac to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries. 

Police say Montauk Highway was closed for an hour and a half and no charges have been filed at this time.

According to witnesses, the Medevac landed at the field at and Montauk Highway was closed off. hour and a half road closed for 

East Quogue Ambulence responded.
