Manhattanite Charged With Felony Leaving the Scene of an Accident

A Manhattan man driving an SUV hit a cyclist on Montauk Highway in Quogue early Monday morning and is now facing felony charges.
Tabber Benedict, 34, of Manhattan was arrested by Monday at 8:17 a.m., about 10 minutes after police say he hit a 44-year-old bicyclist from East Quogue. Police charged Benedict with leaving a motor vehicle accident with serious injuries, a felony, and DWI, a misdemeanor.
Benedict was driving east bound on Montauk Highway, just past the intersection with County Route 104, when police say he hit the bicyclist and another car. Benedict drove away, but was flagged down on Main Street in East Quogue by a witnesses of the accident, police said.

Benedict was arraigned on Tuesday and remanded to Suffolk County Jail in Riverside on $25,000 bail.
The bicyclist was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital and was listed in critical condition Tuesday morning. There were no other injuries in the accident. Police are still investigating.
