UPDATED: Manhattan Lawyer Pleads Guilty to Hitting Bicyclist While Drunk

A Manhattan lawyer pleaded guilty last week to driving drunk and fleeing the scene of a crime after he hit a man riding his bicycle in Quogue last summer, and sent him to the hospital with serious injuries.

According to online court records, 35-year-old Tabber Benedict, the founder of Benedict Advisors, pleaded guilty to felony charges of first-degree vehicular assault, two counts of second-degree vehicular assault, and leaving the scene of an accident with a serious injury.

The bicyclist, a lifeguard and schoolteacher, was riding on Montauk Highway, near the intersection of Route 104, when he was hit. He was brought to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital, was lited in critical condition, and was later released.

Benedict also pleaded guilty to a half dozen other misdemeanors and traffic violations, including DWI and reckless driving.

He is due for sentencing on Jan. 25 of 2013, and Newsday quoted Benedict's attorney noting that the Manhattan resident will lose his law license as a result of the incident. He faces three and a half to 10 years in prison.

Benedict was featured in a New York Observer piece in 2012 which dubbed him and a few others "Gatsbabies," due mostly to their wardrobes and high-class lifestyles.
