Previous: A single-car crash on Red Creek Road in Hampton Bays that resulted in a car fire around midnight sent two men of three men, who were in the car, to the hospital.

According to Southampton Town Police, one of the men had been trapped in the BMW, which went up in flames after it stuck a tree.

Police say the man was able to escape the blaze before emergency responders arrived, but sustained burns and was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center and later to Stony Brook University Hospital by the Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance..

Police say Suffolk County Police Aviation was requested, however, mechanical issues prevented the unit from transporting the man via air.

A second occupant of the car, who was injured as a result of the crash, was transported to Southampton Hospital.

The third man, the driver, refused medical treatment, police said.

The names of all three men are being withheld, pending an investigation.

The Hampton Bays Fire Department was also on scene, police said.

Bill Hutchison, first assistant chief with the Hampton Bays Fire Department, which responded with two engines and 20 firefighters, said when he arrived on scene, the BMW was fully engulfed in flames.

Hutchison said the fire was put out within 10 minutes and the department did a "good" job getting the fire under control quickly.
