Crimes and suspicious incidents recently reported to the Southampton Town Police Department:
Identity Theft
A Flanders man reported to police on March 2 that someone stole $11,400 from his Chase Bank account in three separate transactions. According to a police report, Chase has refunded the resident $2,500 and is working to retrieve the rest.
A North Sea resident told police on Feb, 27 that someone used his American Express credit card to make $1,041 in Internet purchases. Police report they have no leads at this time.
Petit Larceny
A Riverside resident reported to police that on March 2 she left her wallet in a Moonlight Taxi. The report states that the taxi driver returned her wallet, however $60 was missing from it. The driver told police, several other customers were in the taxi before he noticed the wallet in the backseat.
The owner of Riverside Recycling, Inc told police on Feb 26 that someone stole a license plate off one of his cars that was parked outside his business on Old Quogue Road.
A Riverside resident reported to police on March 1 that someone stole the license plate off his car, which was parked at the Bridgehampton Train Station from Feb. 17 to March 1.
Harassment
A student of Suffolk Community College in Riverhead reported to police on Feb. 23 that while standing in front of the school café’, three black men approached him and his friends and told them that they are going to kill them. Police are investigating.
Burglary
A Sag Harbor resident told police on March 3 that someone broke into his home sometime between Jan. 13 and March 3 and stole $150 worth of toiletries and a cordless phone, valued at $25.
A Watermill resident reported to police on Feb. 25 that someone broke into her home and stole various jewelry, including a rope chain, valued at $1,500; a gold chain valued at over $1,000 and a watch with a diamond setting, valued between $800 and $1,000. Police said there were no signs of forced entry at the home.
Leaving the Scene
While on patrol in the area of Sagaponack Road, a Southampton Police officer reported that he came across a 1983 Porsche Convertible off the roadway and in-between shrubs and trees. The license plate on the car did not correspond to the vehicle’s registration. As of March 26, police said they have been unable to locate the owner of the car, which has been impounded.
A Hampton Bays woman reported to police on March 1 that while her car was parked on Ponquogue Avenue in Hampton Bays another car struck hers, causing damage. Police are investigating.
A East Quogue resident told police on March 1 that while her car was parked at the Southampton Bus Garage in Watermill, another car struck her car, causing damage to her left front bumper. Police are investigating.
Grand Larceny
A resident of Hampton Bays said someone stole a tank of fuel oil from her business on Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays. The woman told police on Feb 27 that she had just gotten a delivery of fuel, but when she checked the tank it was empty.
Criminal Mischief
A Hampton Bays resident told police on Feb. 23 that sometime between Feb. 18 and Feb. 22 someone damaged his garage door, denting it. No items were taken from the garage.
A resident of St. Andrews Road West in Southampton told police on Feb. 21 that someone stole a handbag, valued at $20 and various credit cards from her car which was locked and in her driveway.
A Hampton Bays Red Creek Ridge Community resident reported to police on Feb 2 that several street signs in her neighborhood were damaged in the overnight hours of Feb. 2.
