Incident Reports: Residents Surprised by Man Who Enters Home 'To Use Bathroom'

Also this week, business owner said his lawn signs were stolen.

Crimes and suspicious incidents recently reported to the Southampton Town Police Department west of the Shinnecock Canal.

Petty Larceny

• A Riverside resident told police on June 12 that someone stole a computer from his living room, which he shares with six other people. The computer is valued at $600.

• A resident of Flanders Road reported to police on June 8 that someone dumped numerous old tires in the parking lot of a church located on Flanders Road

• The owner of Jackson Tree Service in Hampton Bays reported to police on June 12 that someone has been stealing his lawn signs off the property of his customers. He told police he believes the signs are being taken by one of his competitors. Police are investigating.

Attempted Robbery

• A Flanders resident called police on June 15 after she said someone hit her her face while she leaned into her car, which was parked in her driveway in Flanders. The woman told police the man then fled on foot. Flanders EMT and Riverhead K-9 patrol responded, but could not find anyone in the area. The woman was taken by ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment.

Burglary

• A Hampton Bays resident called police on June 15 to report that someone broke into his apartment and stole a shotgun, valued at $600. Police said there did not appear to be any forced entry and are investigating.

• An East Quogue resident told police on June 12 that someone entered his basement and stole tools, valued at $700.

Assault

• Police were called on June 16 after an East Hampton resident was struck in the head by a heavy object in the Hampton Bays Diner parking lot and was then involved in a car accident. The man told police after he was hit in the head, he got in a car to try to follow the person who struck him, but then crashed into a telephone poll.

Criminal Trespass

• A Hampton Bays man told police on June 10 that while he was in the shower, two men entered his house. One of the men, the report states, went into the bathroom and said he needed to use it. When the homeowner got out of the shower, he said the men fled the house.  On the same day, another Hampton Bays resident reported a similar incident. She told police that she heard noises in her upstairs bedroom, when she went to see what it was, she ran into a man on a staircase who told her he just wanted to use the bathroom. The man then fled, the report states.

• The owners of the Old Turtle Bay Night Club in East Quogue called police on June 11 after they noticed that someone broke out a pane of glass on the club’s back door and also removed  an iron bar that secures the doorway.

Grand Larceny

• A Dream patron told police on May 27 that someone stole her purse from the bar at Dream Night Club in Hampton Bays. In her purse was her driver’s license, her iPhone, valued at $150 and a Capital One bank card.

• A resident of East Quogue told police that she believes one of her brother’s friend’s stole her wallet off her kitchen counter on June 10. She also told police that sometime after the wallet was stolen, one of her credit cards was used at the Hess Station in Quogue.

• A Hampton Bays man told police that someone stole his car from his driveway in Hampton Bays and then left it at the end of Argonne Road East in Hampton Bays with damage. The man believes that his neighbor has video surveillance of the car being stolen. Police are investigating.

• A Remsenburg resident believes a worker at her home took her checkbook. She told police on June 16 that the checkbook could have been taken anytime as she has had workers in and out of her house recently. She also believes some of the checks were written out and cashed at different bank locations. Police are investigating.

Criminal Mischief

• An East Quogue resident called police on June 14 after she said she discovered that someone smashed the rear window of her car, which was parked in her driveway.
