Incident Report: Craigslist Deal Goes South for Airsoft Gun Owner

Also this week, a man said someone tried to go out to a Yankees game on his dime.

Crimes and suspicious incidents recently reported to the Southampton Town Police Department in Southampton Town, west of the Shinnecock Canal.

• A deal to sell a few airsoft guns on Craigslist went south for an East Quogue man.

According to police, the man agreed to meet someone on Friday in the East Quogue 7-Eleven parking lot to sell him three air rifles.

The man looking to buy them reportedly showed up around 2:30 p.m. with two friends, said he liked the guns, showed the man who was selling the rifles the money, but then proceeded to place the guns in his car and leave the parking lot.

• On Saturday around 9:20 p.m., a Hampton Bays woman said that a woman entered her home through a previously broken basement window and split once she was confronted.

According to police reports, when the homeowner confronted the woman, the trespasser said that she was there for the homeowner's daughter, and then fled the Fanning Avenue home.

The woman’s daughter said she did not know the woman, and a response from Riverhead Police K-9 Unit yielded no signs of the woman. 

• On Thursday, a Hampton Bays woman reported that someone broke a rear window and stole $8,000 in cash, as well as $600 in jewelry and a $300 camera. According to a police report, the tenants below the place where the break-in was reported heard footsteps around 10 or 11 a.m. on the date of the incident, and the cash had been kept in a metal lock box in the bottom drawer of a desk.

• A Remsemburg man reported that between Sunday night and Monday morning, someone stole eight brass yard lights from his South Country Road house. They were valued at a total of $1,600.

• An Eastport man reported on June 13 that someone attempted to purchase four tickets to a New York Yankees game through Ticketmaster using a credit card of his, without his permission. According to police, the transaction was flagged and the man was never billed for the tickets, which would have come at a cost of $1,800.

• A Hampton Bays woman reported that on June 13, someone attempted to purchase nearly $400 in Gucci jeans through Bluefly.com using her credit card. She was able to reverse the charges before being charged.
