Former Westhampton Beach Student Destroys Mural He Painted

Westhampton Beach police charged the 23-year-old with burglary, a felony.

A Hampton Bays man was charged by police after he defaced a mural that he painted five years earlier in the Westhampton Beach High School. 

According to Westhampton Beach Police, Gabriell Rojas, 23, walked into the school on Sunday May 5 at 2:30 p.m. and spray painted around the mural that depicts a Mayan scene and then left the school.

Police said, a day later, after realizing he could have been captured on the school's survlaience system, he contacted one of the school's teachers, telling the teacher he was going to come back and fix the mural. 

As he pulled up to the school, cops nabbed him and charged him with burglary in the third degree, a felony; criminal mischief in the 4th degree, making graffiti and possession of graffiti insturments, all misdemeanors. 

Rojas was released on $250 bail and due back in court on May 22.
